Hard Earth Farm is a family-owned and operated farm in Modoc, South Carolina. We are deeply committed to the causes of sustainability and health, with a reverence for the Earth which touches all that we do. The patch of that Earth which nominally belongs to us is 140 acres of South Carolina. With the recognition that we own it only in name, we’ve used 45 of those acres to build our pastures, with the remaining land protected under environmental easement. We draw all of our water (including that used by the garden and the animals) from springs on our property, and run our graywater through an extensive filter system that renders it safe to return to the water table. We also compost and use composting toilets, so very little goes to waste on Hard Earth Farm.
